Vilhelm Bergsoe (1835 - 1911), was a Danish author and zoologist. In 1862, he went to Messina in Italy to study the fauna of the Mediterranean. There, he made observations of swordfish parasites and after his return to Denmark published a monograph about them. As a result of continuous use of a microscope, he contracted a serious eye infection and went temporarily blind, and was forced to give up his career as a naturalist.
