Lewis Carroll (1832-98) was born Charles Dodgson. He studied Mathematics at Christ Church, Oxford, and became a teacher at the college in 1855. At Christ Church he met Alice Liddell, daughter of the college dean. On a boating trip, Dodgson told Alice and her sisters his story about Wonderland, which he later wrote down at Alice's request.
