The author's namesake comes from a long line of American patriots. His forefathers, the Goodenowe family, sailed in 1638 upon the good ship CONFIDENCE of London, to the shores of Cape Cod, settling in Barnstable, MA in 1639. One early ancestor on these shores, by marriage to either Jane or Lydia Goodenowe, was Gov. William Bradford. A later ancestor, Captain Phineas Beardsley, fought in the Revolutionary War.
