In November of 2012, an assortment of local writers from around the Huntington, West Virginia region started holding impromptu gatherings at a local library to participate in National Novel Writing Month. After thirty days and hundreds of thousands of words, the group decided that their camaraderie shouldn't be limited to one month of the year, thus forming Wicked Wordsmiths of the West, a group dedicated to promoting an interest in writing and furthering the skills of local writers.
