Bill Barker was one of nine children raised by good Christian parents in the edge of the Okeefenokee swamp in south Georgia. There were only eight people were in his senior class in a public high school. The school was so small there was no one to teach subjects many of the courses required for college entry, so he got a book and a cassette player and taught himself. He attended University of Georgia and earned a Bachelor of Science in chemistry.
