PRAVIN BANKER was born in the Island of Sri Lanka, formerly called Ceylon. He attended the Jesuit school St Peters College, Colombo. His Father was a Director of the Scindia Steamship Company, stationed in Colombo. At the age of seventeen, in the midst of a hurricane that had swept over the Island, he boarded a Scindia vessel sailing for America. It was a stormy sea and his challenge was to board the vessel 5 miles out at sea. He was scheduled to attend Columbia University that fall.
