Bales, Kathryn Hackett

Kathryn, her rottweiler and two pit bulls live near Elko, Nevada in a house owned by four cats. She and the dogs are allowed to remain as long as they agree to adhere to feline standards. She is a former animal control officer who has lived with one or more pit bulls for most of her life. She is an active participant in pit bull rescue. One of her rescued pit bulls has been trained as a medical service dog and accompanies her almost everywhere. The other is deaf, and not nearly as well trained as the dog in this novel.
