Bachi, Roberto

Roberto Bachi was born in Rome in 1909. He was Professor of Statistics in various Italian Universities, but following the enforcement of antisemitic legislation in Italy, he immigrated to Palestine in 1938. He organized the Department of Statistics at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, where he is still Professor of Statistics and Demography and he served as Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences between 1953-54, and as Pro-Rector of the University in 1959-60. Since the establishment of the State of Israel, he has served as Government Statistician and Scientific Director of the Central Burea
