Avery, Laurence

Laurence Avery had a decades long career as teacher and scholar at UNC-Chapel Hill, where he served as chairman of the English department. He has published numerous articles and six books on British and American playwrights including several seminal works on the playwright Paul Green. While MOUNTAIN GRAVITY is his first book of poems, many of Avery's poems have been published in magazines and journals. Brought together in this new collection, the poems reveal Avery's extraordinary narrative gift, an abiding interest in his mountain heritage and a keen eye for the natural world.
