Rosie Atkins spent 15 years working for the "Sunday Times" (London) before becoming a freelance garden writer for various national newspapers. In 1987 she and her family spent a year traveling around the world, which furthered her interest in how other people garden. In 1993 she launched "Gardens Illustrated" and was the editor of the magazine for eight years. She left in 2001 to become curator of the famous Chelsea Physic Garden in London.
