John Linney was born in York, grew up in Kent and eventually moved back to Yorkshire (via Norfolk). The Heart of Underdale is the second in a trilogy of stories centred around Joe Walters, his family and the high moor. The stories are set in Central Yorkshire. John has 6 children and two border terriers. He worked in London as a civil servant making films and TV programmes, in Norwich in a job centre; and in Leeds as psychiatric nurse.
