Patrick John Rose was born on board his father's ship, the Marguerite, off the coast of New York on January 29, 1872. His stories relate that his father's name was (Captain) John Wesley Rose of Dublin, Ireland. Patrick claimed to have sailed for more than 30 years and was familiar with the Grimsby Docks of England, Humber Estuary, and the Dogger Banks of the North Sea. Patrick was also familiar with Dacre Castle, which was being used (according to Wikipedia ) as a farm home by 1816, later restored into an elegant private residence.
