In early 1979, six months after the suicide of her twenty-four year old son, Kent, the second oldest of her five children, LaRita Archibald joined the American Association of Suicidology, initiating over three decades as a suicidologist. LaRita and her husband, Eldon, started HEARTBEAT, among the world's first support organizations for suicide bereaved, in 1980.
