Michael Archer was born and raised in Oakland, California and served in the Marine Corps from 1967-1970. During his time in South Vietnam, he survived the seventy-seven day siege of Khe Sanh Combat Base, earning the Navy Achievement Medal and Combat Action Ribbon, as well as the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry for his actions during the desperate fighting at Khe Sanh village in January 1968. An avid reader throughout his life, he especially enjoys history, biography, poetry and good literature.
