Dionisius Agius' research is on the semantics of material-cultural terminology with special reference to seafaring communities of the Mediterranean and the Indian Ocean. He is currently working on a project reconstructing a range of Arabic documents unearthed at Quseir al-Qadim on the Egyptian Red Sea coast, which shed new light on the shipping, maritime trade and ethnography of the region during the 13th and 14th Mamluk period. He is author of a number of books, including "Siculo Arabic" published by Kegan Paul.
