The Sustainable Development Goals, formulated by the UN, led to the formation of a concept of the environmental sustainability of the economy. Prof. Dr. Elena G. Popkova completed Doctor of Economics and is an honored worker of science and higher education of the Russian Federation; the founder and the president of the Institute of Scientific Communications (Volgograd, Russia), a professor of Peoples' Friendship University of Russia (RUDN University), a member of the expert council at the Russian Academy of Sciences, Moscow, Russia, the author of more than 200 publications in Scopus (h-index: 35), the editor of more than 100 books and a large number of special issues of international peer-reviewed scientific journals, a member of the editorial board of the International Journal of Economic Policy in Emerging Economies and the International Journal for Quality Research, and the recipient of Highly Commended Paper Award for the journal On the Horizon for 2020 (Emerald). She is among Scopus top 2% of most-cited scholars of the world in 2019–2022

Bruno S. Sergi is an instructor at Harvard University, where he is also a faculty affiliate at the Center for International Development and an associate at the Harvard Davis Center for Russian and Eurasian Studies and the Harvard Ukrainian Research Institute. He is a full professor at the University of Messina, Italy. His research and teaching interests tie to the broader topic of the economics of emerging markets. In addition, he is the co-director of the Lab for Entrepreneurship and Development (LEAD), a research laboratory based in Cambridge (USA) that aims to generate and share knowledge about entrepreneurship, development, and sustainability.
