Volume One I woke up somewhat later than I intended. I had been lax in my routine to get my exercise program started once again, so I hurriedly got dressed and left the house. I suppose the color was what caught my eye I thought to myself, "Her parents have to be so proud of her, she is lovely." I turned to continue my run, and I stepped on a small branch. The branch crunched under my feet and I looked over at the young girl. When my eyes met hers I was startled by the emptiness and lack of emotion on her face. Her eyes were vacant and she appeared numb. What went on in this home and what had caused the emptiness in this young girl's stare? Jill Hawkins got out of bed, and for a fleeting moment thought about her daughter Annie. The moment left as quickly as it had come and she stretched and laughed out loud. "I haven't been this happy for a long time " she told herself. "I am starting over again and I won't look back.
