In 1995, an archaeological dig on the Crimean Peninsular reveals some spectacular discoveries. Robert Buchanan, a Scottish pathologist, and Natalie Duvivier, a French forensic scientist, attend a conference at the University of Kiev in the Ukraine and subsequently work together on some of the finds. In examining the skeleton of a woman they are bewildered by her abnormal anatomy. DNA testing confirms that she belongs to no known human grouping. Metal artefacts, considerably more sophisticated than anything previously associated with the Early Bronze Age are unearthed. When it is discovered that some of the artefacts interact to produce an astonishing range of phenomena, Robert and Natalie are immediately arrested for spying and sabotage. They have to escape, but how? If they succeed, where can they go to evade the psychotic Major Andreev and his two evil henchmen, Gregor and Yuri.
