Long-acting sustained and controlled release preparations make a once-a-day dose treatment possible, thus improving the patients' compliance. The rate and extent of drug release from most controlled release wax matrices are influenced by several factors including the drug loading/embedding excipient ratio of the systems. The changing of this ratio enabled the preparation of zinc sulphate wax matrices of required drug release kinetics consequently of plasma zinc level.
