Fundamental to international relations is the study of cooperation and communication between states, but as yet there has been little attention paid to the role which translation plays in political interactions. Translation in World Politics brings together analysis from across the fields of politics, international relations, policy, area studies and development studies to explore how our the concept of translation can be reconfigured to enhance our understanding of cooperation in global politics. Beginning with how different disciplines theorise notions of translation, the book goes on to use the EU as a case study for how translation impacts on policy dissemination. It then explores the micro-sociological ways in which global institutions emerge and fail and finally questions the spatial hierarchies prominent in much Political Science and International Relations scholarship. Translation in World Politics opens new perspectives on how norms and ideas change as they travel back and forth between different contexts. It will be useful to students and scholars of politics, international relations, social anthropology, development studies and sociology.
