The series of which this volume forms part of, is an international co-operative publication on the history of world theatre. In six volumes, WECT documents artistic development all over the world, country by country, region by region. Volumes one and two, are on Europe and the Americas respectively and are published. This third volume in the series examines theatrical developments in Africa since 1945. Entries on 44 African countries are featured, preceded by introductory essays on Anglophone Africa, Francophone Africa, History and Culture, Cosmology, Music, Dance, Theatre for Young Audiences and Puppetry. There is also a special introductory general essay on Africa by Wole Soyinka.
