Whilst recent attention has been paid to responding to the needs of women in prison, negligible research attention has been paid to women after prison and the support required in reducing their risk of re-offending. Based on extensive Australian research, this book considers how women manage their correctional obligations and re-settle in the community after prison.
Drawing on a range of case studies of the experiences of women before and after they leave prison including their interactions not just with professional services but also with personal networks including partners, children and peers, this book examines the style of services which are most effective in reducing recidivism, as well as the personal and structural obstacles, such as housing and employment, which the women face as they attempt to cope with the demands of life after prison.
