There are more than 400 important wetlands in Sindh of which 10 are Ramsar sites i.e. the wetlands of International Importance. The data collected about the important wetlands particularly in the districts of Sanghar, Khairpur, Larakana, Thatta, Badin shaheed Benazirabad, Jamshoro, Dadu, Sujawal, Tharparkar and Karachi Coast has highlighted the importance of the wetlands of Sindh as the principal wintering ground in Pakistan. Haleji, Keenjhar, Hammal, Lungh, Drigh, Nurri-Jubho, Phoosna, Manchhar, Nara Wetland Complex, Chotiari Wetland Complex, Hub Dam and Karachi Coast are the important wetlands of the Province for supporting large number of waterbirds during the migratory season. The main threats to the waterbirds and wetalnds in Sindh are: Hunting, reclamation of land, lack of management, pollution and drought. There is need to protect the threatened species such as Marble Teal, White-eyed Pochard, Sarus Crane, Sociable Plover, Indian Darter and Crab Plover. The research techniques and information are helpful for graduate and research students of Biological and Environmental Sciences.
