The study compiles the existing wastewater management in capital city of India commonly known as New Delhi.It has population of more than one million which is expected to grow more than two million by 2021.In 2002-03, the per capita consumption of water in Delhi was 65.90gallons per day.Approximately 3663mld of the wastewater was produced in 2003-04.Out of this only 2230mld is treated.River Yamuna is the only source of freshwater to Delhi and flows like a drain between Wazirabad barrage and Okhla (exit point of river from the city) due to addition of untreated or partially treated wastewater.The present work encompasses the type of wastewater produced form different sources like domestic,industries, institutions and communities.The authors have also tried to capture the extent of diffuse pollution in the city.There is an urgent need to develop a wastewater management plan.O&M of existing wastewater treatment plants must be at the top priority. Sustainable urban drainage systems should be established to tackle diffuse pollution in Delhi.An insight to the what is needed to be done' has also been captured via authors.
