How did it happen that 2^nd century Christian authors often cited or alluded to pagan literature? To answer this question, the study examines their works together with those of their predecessors. It shows that the literary practice of quoting pagan texts had strong roots in Jewish-Hellenistic writings as well as in some New Testament texts.

Wie kam es dazu, dass die christlichen Schriftsteller des 2. Jahrhunderts recht häufig Werke der paganen Literatur zitierten oder doch auf diese anspielten? Um die Frage beantworten zu können,werden nicht nur deren eigene Bücher, sondern auch die ihrer Vorgänger untersucht. Es zeigt sich, dass für diese literarische Praktik vor allem jüdisch-hellenistische, aber auch einige neutestamentliche Schriften entscheidend waren.
