For many young writers the most difficult part of their task is getting started. They want to write. (Or someone else wants them to write ) But they don't know where to begin. And oftentimes when they do begin, they are overwhelmed by the risks of improper spelling or improper punctuation. This workbook takes away the writer's block and the risks. It gives struggling writers starting points and enough minimal direction to get them writing. It also reminds them that in a rough draft spelling and punctuation are not critical, the writing is. Proper spelling and punctuation are important, but they can come later, after the writing has really begun. The workbook takes the student through the process of improving ten sentences, in four different ways. Only after the student has written a sentence four different ways are they even asked to turn it into a paragraph. And only after they have done all ten sentences and paragraphs are they asked to go beyond those and try their hand at constructing a story. And at that point they are reminded to pay attention to proper spelling and grammar.
