The seriousness of technology, the positive and challenging impacts of technological advances, and their influences on society today will be scrutinized, beginning with the history of computing itself, where the high investment in technology was almost always destined for the purposes of war and power, something that prevails to this day. The article highlights the positive work of academia to teach and raise awareness of the use of technology in a sustainable and inclusive way, with emphasis on scientific and voluntary contributions from Latin America.
