Chapter 1.Some Examples of the Use of IR Spectroscopy in Mineralogical Studies.- Chapter 2.IR Spectra of Minerals and Related Compounds, and Reference Samples Data.- Chapter 3.Some Aspects of the Use of Raman Spectroscopy in Mineralogical Studies.- Chapter 4.Raman Spectra of Minerals.
Nikita V. Chukanov from the Russian Academy of Science is a global expert on infrared spectroscopy applied to minerals. He was involved in the discovery of more than 200 new mineral species that are now approved by the IMA Commission on New Minerals and Mineral Names. He has also invented two original IR spectroscopic methods for analyzing materials and written more than 740 publications.
Marina F. Vigasina is a leading researcher at the Lomonosov Moscow State University, Russia. Her major fields of expertise include Raman and infrared spectroscopy. She was involved in the discovery of 27 new mineral species that are approved by the IMA Commission on New Minerals and Mineral Names and published more than 175 papers on mineralogy, crystal chemistry and geochemistry.
The book presents new data on the IR spectra of minerals and on the Raman spectra of more than 2000 mineral species. It also includes examples of IR spectroscopy applications to investigate minerals, and discusses the most important potential applications of Raman spectroscopy in mineralogical research. The book serves as a reference resource and a methodological guide for mineralogists, petrologists and technologists working in the field of inorganic materials.
