Many veterans are returning to, or beginning, college in the United States. In general, colleges and universities openly welcome our returning veterans to campus. Like all students, veterans want to get off to a good start and make smooth adjustments to college. However, some faculty members, college administrators and staff are sometimes unprepared to properly advise and assist veterans, especially when these professors or administrators have not served in the military. This handbook has been written to provide veterans with the answers to many of the questions that they might have in college. The handbook will provide valuable information that some veterans may need to handle sensitive situations, should they arise. The authors believe that this handbook will save veterans' time, effort and potentially money when it comes to getting a college education. The authors are exceptionally well qualified to provide the knowledge and advice presented in this handbook. Each author was a veteran when he obtained a college degree after serving in the military. Both authors have held positions that required them to answer a diverse number of questions about veterans in college. With colleagues both authors have also co-authored other books that information about how professors may teach and college administrators may provide services to veterans in college. It is the hope of both authors that all veterans are successful in college, in their future careers and in their lives. Finally, the authors express their utmost respect to all service members and veterans for their many sacrifices for our country.
