The current research on heterogeneous wireless networks mainly focus on seamless selection of the best network out of available by vertical handoff. The researches in Cognitive Radio (CR) networks are envisaged to solve the problem of spectrum scarcity and inefficiency in spectrum usage by spectrum handoff. Hence, CR networks are providing high attention for wireless community. The heterogeneous wireless networks with CR networks are referred as heterogeneous CR networks which simultaneously facilitates dynamic spectrum access and network selection simultaneously. Heterogeneous CR networks faces multiple challenges such as the time and location varying spectrum availability, heterogeneous types of node, and best network selection out of available networks. Therefore, vertical handoff in heterogeneous CR networks is natural way to meet out the above. These types of complex challenges are rarely explored in the research community. This book outlines a comprehensive survey and classifications of heterogeneous wireless networks vertical handoff algorithms and accrediting these vertical handoff algorithms for the best network selection in heterogeneous CR networks.
