I never expected to find the information contained in this book as I began writing on Mark's Gospel of Jesus. It began as a book looking at Jesus' life from the eyes of a new believer. I was looking for the answer to questions I asked while writing the final chapters on Matthew's Gospel. What changed Jesus' disciples between the cross and Pentecost? What did they miss? This book began revealing the answers. The first few chapters of this book are great for small study groups, teaching them how to look deeper into scripture by asking questions and answering on a personal level, one of the easiest methods of study to learn and share. As I began to study chapter 4, the parable of the sower, I began to see patterns develop. As the book progressed it became clear Jesus followed a specific sequence designed to equip His disciples with the knowledge required to continue His ministry. The disciples asked Jesus to explain the parable of the sower. As we all know, learning to study the Bible cannot be explained in a single verse or chapter, it is a life long work of learning, developing skills and sharing. Jesus used simple concepts of repetition which serves a number of purposes. By repeating lessons, Jesus shows the disciples had a learning curve He had to contend with, something we all share on our own level. The reaction of the disciples teaches us patients as we share with others. It also points out a basic teaching concepts used by all concerned teachers in which main points are repeated to develop memory. Repetition is also used by Bible authors to draw attention to key words, phrases and thoughts. Identifying these details is referred to as an inductive study. Jesus provided the keys to Bible study by pointing His disciples and others back to scripture and the Holy Spirit. Mark recorded the step by step process Jesus followed, using a mixture of parables and real life experiences to teach so even a child can learn. All this book does is follow the sequence used by Jesus, pointing out the simple methods He taught His disciples to use, making it easy to follow, understand, and teach. The goal of the book is to teach you how to obtain a deeper understanding of the Bible by explaining basic study methods already recorded in the Mark's Gospel in such an easy manner all you need to add is prayer and time.
