Elle Wadsley has been living in the World of the Normals her whole life, which as of now, was eleven years and a few months. But what's so important about that, you may ask? Let me tell you. What is important about anything in Elle's life is that even though all of her friends were Normals and even though her parents were also Normals, she herself was very far removed from being a Normal-very far indeed. Elle Wadsley was of the Uncanny sort, and was right now, at that very stage in life where she was required to move to the World of the Uncanny, far from her Normal friends, and far from her Normal parents and far from her Normal life, to where the magical people lived. Both of her grandmothers, Baba Finella (her mother's mother) and Gram EJ (her father's mother) were Uncanny, but that didn't make the transition any less difficult for her. How in the world do you start a new middle school with no friends, especially Edelsblad, the huge, excessively dark, castle of a school nestled deep in the middle GoatCove Swamp, buried amongst the Forests of the Marsh, way away from the world of the Normals. Everything wasn't all doom and gloom for her though. As a first year Uncanny, she was just a little bit excited to see how she turned, and her parents were quite possibly even more excited than her (seeing as they had never turned themselves). Granted, her grandmothers, who practically despised one another, both wanted her to turn the same way they had, but it was really all up in the air. She could be anything-a witch, a fae, a vampire or a werewolf (although she had to admit, she didn't want to be either of those), a shapeshifter, or even an elemental. Classes awaited and lessons, and daunting days where she would learn how to harness her gifts. She was excited, she was nervous, she was dreading it, but she was also looking forward to it. Oh the joys of middle school when you don't know who (or even what) you are. But, all is not as it seems at Edelsblad. Things are going on behind closed doors that no one's aware of, darkness lurks in the halls when no one's watching. And, it could mean her very life if she and her new friends don't find out soon.
