Tube hydroforming is mainly used for automotiveapplications, aircraft industries and householdappliances. Its main advantages are: partconsolidation, weight reduction, fewer secondaryoperations, and tighter tolerances. However, tubehydroforming is a complex process involving theinteraction of many variables such as loading paths, material formability, and tribological conditions.Improvement of formability, which is defined as theamount of stretch or deformation without any failureduring the process, is extremely important since itcontrols the applicability of the process. This monograph presents ultrasonic technology as amethod of improving formability and tribologicalconditions. Some issues addressed in this monographare: understanding the mechanics of deformation intube hydroforming and identifying the variables thatinfluence formability, developing an analytical modelfor the deformation mechanism for both classical andultrasonic tube hydroforming, and establishingevaluation criteria for quantifying the improvementin formability when ultrasonic vibrations aresuperimposed.
