Quantized field theory and the principle of gaugeinvariance are the foundations of the presentsuccessful standard model of elementary particles. Inspite of all that has been done there are still someunsolved problems. Two of them are addressed inthis book. The first is related to the question ofequivalence of a quantized gauge field theoryformulated with different gauge conditions. Inparticular, I show a way how to restore rotationalinvariance of QCD in the spatial axial gauge and itsequivalence with QCD in the Coulomb gauge. The seconddeals with charged quantum particles in aclassical background field. Renormalized effectiveaction describing such interaction is derived byusing simple diagrammatic techniques. Theseincredibly simple ways for calculating multiple-loopFeynman diagrams open the possibility of findinghigher orders of Heisenberg-Euler effective action. The book offers a summary of these two topicstogether with new results and useful references.Knowledge of the basics of quantum fieldtheory is assumed.
