Realizing the dearth of literature on how to treat substance use disorders among these patients, the authors strive to provide a "stand-alone guide" for providers treating this population. Understanding the hesitancy of many clinicians in treating any psychiatric conditions in pregnant women, this book does fill an important gap in the literature... I have not found another one that addresses this specific topic. It efficiently covers a great deal of information, and provides practical data.

Hendrée E. Jones, PhD, is Senior Research Psychologist at RTI International. She conducts studies on in utero exposure to abused substances and develops behavioral and pharmacologic treatments for treating substance use disorders in pregnant and parenting women. Dr. Jones has published more than 115 peer-reviewed publications, a book, several book chapters, multiple editorial letters, and non-peer-reviewed articles. She serves on NIH review panels and as a consultant to the U.S. State Department, the United Nations, and the World Health Organization. Karol Kaltenbach, PhD, is the Director of Maternal Addiction Treatment, Education and Research (MATER), a division of the Department of Pediatrics, at Jefferson Medical College. MATER includes a comprehensive intensive outpatient treatment program for pregnant and parenting women with substance use disorders and a long-term residential treatment program for women and children.
