Town Hall is a novel about the comical and dramatic events that take place in the town of Buffalo City when President Carter arrives to hold a town hall. The novel is told from the perspective of five characters: Millard Greeley, the fatuous publisher of the newspaper who also happens to be mayor; Byron Mors, Greeley's nemesis, and the town's mortician and an intellectual who suffers from erotomania; Dale Smith, the young reporter who has his story of the big event censored; Carol Greeley, the mayor's wife, who is admired by her fellow Buffalonians although they wonder why she married Greeley; and Harley Dee Grubbs, the potential assassin who believes that the President's visit will provide him a chance of fulfilling his destiny. Town Hall deftly satirizes politics, journalism, and small town conventions. It's funny and poignant and completely original.
