Highly participatory in design, this four-verse setting invites the congregation to join with the SATB choir and organ on verses 1, 2, and 4. Verse 1 is sung in unison, verse 2 is men only, verse 3 is a capella, and verse 4 finishes with a rousing decant-and-toccata-style organ accompaniment. The text challenges the listener not to use the name of God to sanction hate and fear, but rather to move towards acceptance of all cultures. An alternate text for the final verse makes it perfect for inter-faith services.
