In this master's thesis, we will show the history of the immigrant writer and the challenges he faced. We will study the journey of three immigrant writers who settled in Quebec. Internal exile was very common in the lives of these three writers, but whatever the reason for this internal exile, similarities can be observed in their works. All of them based their new identities on anguish and rupture with their old habits. They have led a daily struggle and commitment to adapt to their new environment. The inner exile is a splitting of the soul and the person that leads to an adjustment towards an identity. The distance and suffering deeply aggravate their emotions. These feelings reflect an inner exile and the nostalgia that constantly carries the immigrant back to the past. The inner exile reflects the disruption of habits and traditions still present in the immigrant's memory. As a result, the three authors have evolved, in their own ways, towards new configurations and have acquired what they thought was unattainable during difficult times.
