The aim of this study is to present the criteria and characteristics that define contemporary architectural production, especially the aspects related to culture and the social relationship established between the building and the user. The concepts of phenomenology, semiotics, identity and language are presented, establishing an intrinsic link with architecture and the production of space. The behavior and housing choices of the contemporary population are exposed. Works by architects who work with phenomenology in their projects are cited, presenting their own characteristics in relation to use, the tastes of clients/users and the relationship with the immediate environment, with an emphasis on symbolism and representations. With the case study (Vila Matilde house) it was possible to analyze the phenomenological interfaces of a contemporary housing project, awarded for its design solution and constructive quality. It concludes with an analysis of the case study and a presentation of the phenomenological criteria of contemporary housing architecture observed in the Vila Matilde house.
