Derived from our Master's dissertation defended in 2014 at USP's Institute of Psychology, this book not only brings the results of research into Freud's psychoanalysis, but also seeks to demonstrate a certain way of doing theoretical research, facilitated by the thinking strategy of Marlene Guirado's Institutional Discourse Analysis (2010). With the concept of narcissism as the focus of interest, the aim of this work is to deal with it from the context of its production in the discourse of origins, the Freudian discourse, in order to put into play not the definitions of truth in this discourse, but rather its mode of production. Through an institutional analysis of the discourse of the text Introduction to Narcissism (Freud, 2014), the concept of narcissism is drawn here in the colors that the method of analysis itself has made possible. In the words of Guirado (2012, p. 204), "analysis surprises discourse when it marks it according to the principles of a method, and discourse surprises analysis by decaling the way in which truths are constructed, including those of analysis". It is up to our interlocutors, psychologists and psychoanalysts, to evaluate this endeavor.
