The August Bank Holiday weekend is approaching and the inhabitants of the Valley Villages are looking forward eagerly to their annual Summer Show. Usually, the Dawsons' four Siamese cats would be equally excited, happily anticipating spending time exploring the showground, enjoying the change of scenery and meeting old friends again. This year, however, the prospect of the show doesn't hold the same excitement for the cats, especially Jake. A few weeks earlier the four of them, along with several other cats and dogs from across the villages and led by Jake, had organised and carried out a plan to catch burglars targeting their villages. The little gang, cheekily named Jake's Spy Club by Wesley, the youngest of the Dawson cats, had been hugely successful in their enterprise, in spite of encountering setbacks and danger. Since then, though, life has seemed rather flat, so much so that even the prospect of the normally exciting Summer Show fails to raise much enthusiasm. Before long, however, the animals discover that Spy Club's skills are to be needed again. The show is plagued by the malicious activities of vandals, clearly intent on stopping it going ahead at all costs. As the vandals' activities become more and more violent, the brave members of Spy Club once again must use all their skills and daring, working together as a team to ensure that the show is its usual triumphant success. Along the way, as well as trying to find the vandals, they also have to deal with the arrival of an unruly young dog and get a surprising new recruit to Spy Club.
