Born on May 22, 1942, in Chicago, Theodore John (Ted) Kaczynski, so his real name, displayed exceptional intelligence from an early age. He graduated from Harvard University and went on to earn a Ph. D. in mathematics. In 1971, he abruptly ended his academic career and retreated to a remote cabin in Montana, where he began to plan his war on society. - While Kaczynskis methods were abhorrent, his »Manifesto« provoked debates on the costs of technological advancement and the erosion of personal liberties. 1998 the Unabomber was sentenced to eight consecutive life terms in prison without the possibility of parole. He died in prison, presumably as a result of suicide, on June 10, 2023, at the age of 81.
