Kosovo set an important example in 1999 in terms ofhumanitarian interventions and internationaladministrations. The UN administration in Kosovo wasestablished following the intervention and continuesto exist even after the declaration of independence. In this study, I will talk about internationaladministrations and their impacts on the subjectstates' sovereignty. I will start with a briefhistory of international administrations and try toexplain them in the framework of the UN. After that Iwill come to the legal bases for internationaladministration by the UN in the UN charter, inprinciples of international law and in the UNSecurity Council Resolutions. Following this part, the case of Kosovo will be examined in terms of themandate of the UN mission in Kosovo (UNMIK).Implementation of the mandate in partnership with theEU and OSCE, with a control by the Security Councilwill come next and there will be some talk about howthe local population relate to all this and what theshortcomings are. This study was prepared forunderstanding the concept of internationaladministration better and aims to help those whowants to understand it in the circumstances of Kosovo.
