Dickens is considered to be one of the greatest writers of the English literature. Great Expectations belongs to his later novels and in my view it shows his mastery better than the well-known Oliver Twist or David Copperfield. I have chosen to analyse Great Expectations because I have been fascinated by the hero's character, Pip. He even might be a today's teenager having bold dreams that he tries to fulfil but then he has to realize that life is not a dream. Dickens describes this process through two plotlines: on the surface it seems that Pip's expectations are coming true but besides it there are several signs of the sad reality. The major part of my book deals with these two plots and it also emphasizes the main character's development while fighting for his love and finally he learns his lesson. The analysis should help to understand Dickens's novel. It should be entertaining for everyone who likes his writings or anyone who has ever had great expectations.
