The performance of a traffic system is the response of that system to the given travel demand levels. The quality of operation of traffic system is measured by using certain criterion and often known by the measure of effectiveness.Knowledge of fundamental traffic flow characteristics speed, volume and density and associated analytical techniques are essential requirements in planning, design, and operation of transportation systems. The present study focuses on development of macroscopic models and microscopic models for mid block sections typical medium size Indian cities Arterial Roads. The developed models were validated with extensive field data, from the analysis it can be concluded that for free speed of individual vehicles follows Normal Distribution, where as the time headway of vehicles follows Negative Exponential Distribution, later different models were developed to find out the average time headway. At macroscopic level analytical models were developed to analyze speed, flow and density. Form this study it was found that all the models model predictions were closer to the observed data.
