This work was originally intended as a companion to the first world conference on perspective (La prospettiva rinascimentale, 1977,1980). To this were added two introductory volumes on Sources and Literature. Sources begins with basic definitions, lists centres where treatises were published and categories under which perspective was classed. The latter part explores implications with respect to instrumentation and science, art and representation, architecture and the environment, imagination and freedom. Literature reviews writings concerning perspective texts. It also explores 20th century developments with respect to artificial and augmented reality, and anti-ocularism. Each of the introductory volumes is accompanied by a volume of plates. In addition, Literature has an appendix volume listing Renaissance theorists, practitioners and artists mentioned by Vasari. The Bibliography offers a chronological list beginning in Antiquity until the year 2107. It includes all titles in earlier bibliographies from Lomazzo (1590) to Vagnetti (1989). An appendix volume with indexes is being considered.
