The Socio-Psychological Adaptation of Kurdish students in the UK

In this research, the objectives are to identify the main barriers for Kurdish students in adapting to the UK social values, social norms, way of life and educational system. Also, the research seeks to realize the main difficulties that Kurdish students face in the United Kingdom during their daily life and studies. It has revealed that students from the Kurdistan Region (Southern Kurdistan) who come to the United Kingdom to study face unfamiliar social surroundings compared to the society where they grew up. It is also discovered that social and psychological adaptations of Kurdish students are quite problematic as seen by the fact that British society has its social features, norms and a system of values, which are quite different from those operating in Kurdish society. Moreover, several intercultural adaptation theories of sojourners have been applied to understand the issues faced by Kurdish students and their problems in respect of adaptation into British society.
