These essays are works of authority in their own right and they reflect the different approaches of jurists in their search for principle...There is much in this thought-provoking, both as regards the subject-matter of the esays in their own right but also as regards the wider question of th proper function of the jurist, a function which is clearly multifaceted, whether it is as codifier, critic or philosopher. It is a fitting tribute to Lord Goff and emphasises the importance of the judge and the jurist working together in the search for princple.
