Credoterra is a place of refuge for children who experience betrayal or trauma in their old world. It is a magical island where one may find the snowy peak of Mount Magnus, the enchanted melodies of the Crystal Citadel, and the scary darkness of the Ghost Forest. To some, Credoterra is a place of hope and carefree joy-these are the boys and girls of the island who enjoy playful quests and innocent fun. Others leave their previous world carrying bitterness within their hearts-these children become the adults of Credoterra who live in the metropolis on the sea called Mendax City. These sour souls, calling themselves the Prosperers, are led by the fearsome and wicked man, Mayor Jamus. The Mayor seeks only for the expanse of Mendax City and for the utter destruction of the fanciful island-a place which bitterly reminds him of the childhood he forsook in favor of resentment. Thirteen-year-old, Will, is an enigma to everyone on the island. His arrival at Credoterra causes great confusion, for he is too old to join the ranks of the children and too young to enlist with the Prosperers. To Will, the games of the boys seem quite childish; yet, the plans of the adults seem overly callous and cruel. As he grapples with his place in this magical world, Will discovers much about the sad circumstances which transported him into Credoterra and finds himself in the midst of a great battle for the very soul of the island itself.
