This study deals with the "Other/other" in selected postcolonial plays. The work is divided into four chapters. The introduction traces the development of the notion of the "Other/other" in philosophy and postcolonial critical theory, especially in the writings of Frantz Fanon, Edward Said, Homi Bhabha, and Gayatri Spivak. Chapter one deals with Derek Walcotts Dream on Monkey Mountain, Wole Soyinkas Death and the Kings Horseman, and Girish Karnads The Dreams of Tipu Sultan. Chapter two deals with Sadun Al-Obeidys "Jisr Al-Adu" and Bnayan Salihs "Sirat S", Abdur-Rahman Ash-Sharqawis Masaat Jameela, and Abdur-Rahman Haqeeqs Az-Zingee Al-Abyadh. Chapter four compares these plays and sums up the findings of this study.
